Ants are like any other animal; they require water. If your waterbed has any condensation or even a pinhole leak then the ants will find it.
2. Ants also require a food source. If you eat in or near your bed you are inviting an infestation.
3. If the ants are coming in through multiple entry points, and if they are carpenter ants, then you have a major problem.
4. The quickest way to see if they are carpenter ants is to find a dead one (not squished) and examine it with a magnifying glass. If you see one or two "spikes" on the thin connector between the abdomen (the bulbous rear end) and the thorax (the "chest" where the legs are connected to the body), then you do have a carpenter ant infestation. There are many, many varieties of carpenter ants, varying from small yellowish ones to the common big black ones. The one thing they have in common is the "spike" I previously described. If you do have a carpenter ant infestation, call a professional pest control service. It's not as expensive as most people think.

Here are a few points to consider…

1. Ants are like any other animal; they require water. This includes power, telephone, satellite receiver, and TV antenna wiring among others. Once it is in your home it is really just a matter of chance as to what damage it does, if any.Check out the post below from Australia for a report of lightning striking a water bed. This guy faired okay. However, "dangerous" is a matter of degree. Having never heard of anyone being killed inside their home by any lightning surge, except for those few unfortunate souls who were using landline phones or whose home burned down, I would have to say that yes it is possible but the chances of being hurt by this type of accident are very remote. So get some sleep!WK

Any electrical conductor inside your home that connects to a circuit going outside can potentially carry lightning currents in to anything connected to it. If lightning did travel into your house, your house should have a ground. You are in no more danger whether in the shower, on your waterbed, or in a doorway on a carpeted floor. Furthermore, even if a shock was applied in the neighborhood of your waterbed, the material insulating the water would not conduct electricity.

You have nothing to worry about. Over filling can create more problems than it will fix.

Your bed should have a liner inside the frame. You can fill it till the surface of the mattress is level with the top of the liner. If it springs a leak the liner should catch all the water.

If you’re sinking far enough to feel the plywood base you need more water. An air mattress is made for somewhat temporary use, and a certain weight limit. If you fill it up with water, your adding the weight of several large sized adults, as well as yourself sleeping on it, and probably keeping it for at least several weeks. Scenario I see playing out is one night, you'll turn over or something, putting a short burst of pressure on the mattress and the seems will just give way. Since it was made to be an air mattress, your insurance (or any insurance) won't cover it, and you'll be dealing with several hundred or thousand dollars worth of water damage...Just not worth it, invest in a real one.

It’ll probably work.. for a little.. but I wouldn’t recommend it whatsoever. I slept on one of these for some twenty years and loved it !!
When I got the house that I am in now -- I redid EVERYTHING -- and moved the waterbed into the guest room --- got a super nice standard King in the master bedroom now -- it's okay -- but I still slip off to the guest room to sleep on occasions !!!The "landlord issue" is one, usually about the structural strength of the flooring where the waterbed is to be used -- they are extremely heavy when filled !! That is why there are definite rules in some apartment complexes about them not being allowed on anything BUT the first floor -- I mean, you can kinda understand this, right --- you wouldn't want to be sleeping some night and have 1600 lbs of neighbor and tsunami hit you in the middle of your dream and interrupt your beach scene with your favorite movie star -- now, would you ??

Yo Cat Dude
I slept on one of these for some twenty years and loved it !!
When I got the house that I am in now — I redid EVERYTHING — and moved the waterbed into the guest room — got a super nice standard King in the master bedroom now — it’s okay — but I still slip off to the guest room to sleep on occasions !!!

The “landlord issue” is one, usually about the structural strength of the flooring where the waterbed is to be used — they are extremely heavy when filled !!
